Journeyman Generator Technician – Power Generation – Auburn, WA

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

The Journeyman Generator Technician tests and troubleshoots and repairs diesel and gaseous generator sets and associated equipment per approved factory and company procedures
  • Must comply with Company Policies as stated in the Company Handbook and other amendments
  • Must comply with Company and Department procedural guidelines and memos as directed
  • Work in a safe manner at all times, complying with company safety policies, on-site customer safety policies and regulatory policies
  • Perform field inspections on generators to determine the generator condition by conducting inspections and diagnostic repair testing
  • Identify and repair problems with electrical and mechanical systems. Perform load bank tests, calculate KW for testing
  • Complete tune-ups and repairs identified during the diagnostic testing
  • Troubleshoot and repair AC and DC controls and equipment such as engine controllers, Automation Voltage Regulators, Battery Chargers, Block Heaters, Automatic Transfer switches and Switchgear
  • Troubleshoot and repair diesel and gaseous engines
  • Conduct up-fit modifications to new power generation equipment
  • Load test batteries, check and repair charging systems
  • Verify generator performance by conducting tests, adjusting controls and systems as needed
  • Maintain records with an accurate documentation of service and repair
  • Use good judgement to maintain a safe and organized work environment
  • Keep company tools and equipment operational by following the operating instructions

Travel Requirement:
 
  • Daily travel up to 95% of the time with occasional overnight travel up to 2-week periods

Essential Skills:
  • Basic knowledge of AC 220-690 VAC system fundamentals and work practices
  • Basic knowledge of DC systems fundamentals and work practices
  • Knowledge of generators, diesel and gaseous engines, controls and systems
  • Understand basic operation of transfer switches and switchgear
  • Knowledge of mechanical and electronic governors
  • Ability to understand wiring diagrams, motors, and transformers
  • Must maintain a high level of excellence in quality of work
  • Ability to use vendor diagnostic software to identify and repair deficiencies
  • Ability to work safely at all times
  • Ability to qualify new and used parts for the current job
  • Ability to complete jobs assigned with little to no supervision
  • Excellent customer service skills (Verbal and Written Communication)
  • Continued Professional growth and training by participating in educational opportunities, Training and reading technical manuals and publications
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office Products, Email, Typing, etc.)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Own and maintain a tool inventory
  • Maintain a valid driver’ s license and be insurable under the employer’ s insurance policy

Education Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 4+ years’ experience with truck chassis components (Required)
  • Associates Degree from college or a technical school (Preferred)
  • Washington State 07 Electrical License
